2011 TOURNAMENT RESULTS |
Men's Club Championships, sponsored by “Ongmac Trading; Greg Martin Ph:66215981” SATURDAY 14TH MAY: Brad McLennan showed he had a fair bit on his opposition, as he claimed his fourth straight Championship. Mc Lennan had what could have been a disastrous start, with a nine on the par 4 first hole, but he recovered, to compile a 6 over par 76, which, while it may not have been his most sparkling round was good enough to hold the rest of the field at bay, as the next best final round was the 79 from Guy Scarlett. It was , however, Glenn Eastment, with a final round of 80, who claimed the runner up position. McLennan had rounds of 74,76,68, and 76 for a Championship total of 294, while Eastment finished on 307. The minor grades produced some unexpected results, and some pleasantly surprised prize winners. In B Grade, Terry O’Brien staged a Lazarus like come back, from 11 shots off the pace, after a final round of 81, to take the Grade, after the third round leader, Michael O’Reilly signed for a 93. In fact this allowed Alan Walsh to sneak into the runner up position after a count back from O’Reilly. Walsh, no doubt, considers himself somewhat unfortunate, suffering two lost balls in his round. O’Brien finished on 350, with Walsh and O’Reilly on 351. Bob Bolewski showed the value of a little consistency in winning C Grade after rounds of 96, 98, 98, and 95, for a 387 total, and a three shot win over a fading Mick O’Neill, who finished with a final two rounds of 102 and 103. Riley Taylor, a youngster of whom more will be heard of in future, had a double cause for celebration, taking both the Junior Championship, and the a Grade Nett, with a total of 271. Guy Scarlett was runner up in the Grade on 278. Michael O’Reilly received some consolation for missing out in the Gross, by taking the B Grade Nett on 277, from a pleasantly surprised Keith Larsson on 289. C Grade went to Sid Bateman on 283, with a surprised Frank Tarlinton, runner up on 291. Terry O’Brien,[17], unsurprisingly, had the best score in the day’s nett competition, 64, on his way to winning B Grade from Keith Larsson,[16], on 67. Nett 65 won C Grade for Gary Ellem,[26], from Daniel Smith,[28], on 66. Michael Vidlers’ 79 hits off 10 for a 69 won him A Grade from Ian Wotherspoon,[11], on 71, after Wotherspoon survived a count back from several others. There was a count back on 74 for golf balls
